Game of Life Mosaics

Another project involves creating Game of Life patterns (still lifes and oscillators) that resemble user-supplied source images. The image below comes from the article "Designing Game of Life mosaics with integer programming." The article (which was coauthored by Julia Olivieri and was published in the Journal of Mathematics and the Arts) is the basis of chapter 11 of my Opt Art book (link on the left).
